Calling all teen writers in San Diego County!
The
San Diego Public Library invites youth ages 12–18 to enter the 2025
Teen Writing Contest. This year’s theme—Level Up—ties into the Summer
Reading Program, and entries should creatively explore this idea in any
way you interpret it.
Submissions
must be original short stories, 2,000 words or fewer, and appropriate
for a general audience. Entries must be the author’s own work—no AI,
copyrighted material, or identifying information. Stories can be typed
or handwritten (neatly), and must be submitted with a signed entry form
by Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM either by email
to teenspace@sandiego.gov or in person at your local SDPL
branch.
Winners
will receive gift cards—1st place: $200, 2nd: $100, 3rd: $50—and will
be invited to a celebration and open mic at the Pauline Foster Teen
Center. Whether you're a first-time writer or a storytelling pro, this
is your chance to level up and share your voice!

From March

in phases, with affected areas temporarily closed to the public. All
other areas of the library remain open as usual.
🔒 Areas Closed by Phase

Phase 2: Completed (April 1 – May 23)
Community Room; Seminar Room; Grace’s Book Nook
Phase 3: Completed (May 26 – June 20)
Great Hall (Adult Fiction); Reference Area; Tower Room
✅ These areas are now open to the public.
Phase 4: In Progress (June 23 – July 11)
Children’s Area
🚫
This area is currently closed. Most children’s programs have been
relocated to the Community Room during this phase.
Phase 5: In Progress (July 14 – August 1)

⚠️
Work on Phase 5 has started ahead of schedule, with construction

happiness and peace with his spouse, Vera. When the couple move into a
