What a wonderful way to celebrate! Last month, our Valentine’s Day craft event brought so much joy and creativity to the library. Seeing our community—from the youngest makers to those young at heart—come together to share in the fun was a true highlight of our February programming.

These programs, which foster connection and creativity in our community, are made possible by the dedicated work of the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library (SRFOL). As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we exist to support the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library through volunteer services, special events, and essential financial assistance for library acquisitions and community activities.

If you enjoyed these programs, we invite you to play an active role in keeping them alive. Please consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Library. Your membership directly sustains the events, resources, and services that make our library a vibrant "treasure hunt" for new topics and community engagement.

Construction Update

Repair Status: Detailed information regarding repair work and ongoing progress is available at srfol.org/renovation.htm.

Planned Closure: The start date for the upcoming planned 6–8 month closure of our library for roof and HVAC replacement and resumption of the parking lot expansion has been pushed back yet again and—at the earliest—may occur in late spring.

Monday Closures: Please note that the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library remains closed on Mondays due to City budget constraints. For a list of alternative library locations open on Mondays, please visit the SRFOL website.



Holiday Notice: All libraries will be closed on Tuesday, March 31, in observance of Cesar Chavez Day.

Grace’s Book Nook

Whenever you visit the library, make it a point to stop by Grace’s Book Nook. This used bookstore is open Tuesday–Saturday during regular library hours. The Nook stocks a variety of nearly new books and more for all ages and tastes—all at amazing prices, and all purchases help support the library.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Donate Your Media

Are you running out of shelf space at home? Donate your gently used books and media to Grace’s Book Nook! We will find new, loving homes for your books, CDs, and DVDs. You will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation, along with the satisfaction of supporting the library you love.

Weekly Favorites

• Pajama Storytime: Every Tuesday, 6:45–7:15 pm (Children’s Area). Join Ms. Sarah for a cozy evening of singing, reading, and playing. Pajamas or comfy clothes are encouraged but optional!

• Morning Storytime: Every Wednesday, 10–10:30 am (Community Room). Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, Ms. Sarah leads a joyful session of stories and songs to spark a love of reading.

• Bilingual Storytime: Saturdays (except the first Saturday of the month), 10–10:30 am (Community Room). Join us for a fun, interactive exploration of language and culture with stories, songs, and activities in English/Spanish and English/Arabic.

Special Events

• Kamishibai Storybox Theatre: Saturday, March 7, 10–10:30 am (Community Room). Step into the enchanting world of Kamishibai, a traditional Japanese art form where professional storytellers bring timeless folk tales to life using illustrated cards and a wooden storybox. All ages welcome!

• Doodly Doos: Art Class for Kids: Saturday, March 7, 10:30 am–12 pm (Community Room). In celebration of Women's History Month, young artists will explore the techniques of Georgia O'Keeffe. We’ll learn about mixing colors and creating tints while crafting a large-format flower inspired by her style.

• Cube Quest: Problem-Solving in Action: Saturday, March 21, 11 am–12 pm (Seminar Room). Designed for ages 7+, this student-led STEAM series uses the Rubik’s Cube and strategic games to teach perseverance and logical reasoning. Note: This is the first session of a recurring series; registration for this event includes all future occurrences. Registration opens March 2 at 8 am.

• RoboReady: Intro to Robotics & 3D Design: Saturday, March 21, 1–3 pm (Seminar Room). Step into the world of engineering! Participants will explore computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D modeling fundamentals. Note: This is the first session of a recurring series; registration for this event includes all future occurrences. Registration opens March 2 at 8 am.



• Into the Microverse: Tuesday, March 17, 5:00–6:00 pm (Seminar Room). Join us as we investigate the living organisms found in the Scripps Miramar Ranch library "Duck Pond." Program leader Terence Au will guide participants in gathering fresh water samples and examining them under microscopes to identify the tiny life forms thriving in our own backyard. Note: Space and equipment are limited. Registration is strongly encouraged and opens March 2 at 8:00 am.

Open Beading: Every Wednesday, 10 am–12 pm in the Seminar Room. Beaders of all skill levels are welcome to bring their own supplies and join this creative group.

Mahjong Fun: Every Thursday, 10 am–12 pm in the Community Room. Offered in collaboration with Scripps Ranch 50 Plus, this program provides game sets for seniors and enthusiasts to enjoy.

Scripps-Mesa Garden Club: Tuesday, March 24, 5:30–7:30 pm in the Community Room. This monthly gathering features guest speakers on various gardening topics. The group also organizes tours of members' gardens and outings to local nurseries and farms.

Maximizing Social Security: March 17 @ 5:00-7:00 pm. (Community Room). Join us for a FREE, informative workshop designed to help you make the most of your Social Security options. Led by experienced advisors, this session will help you: Understand when and how to claim your benefits. Learn strategies to potentially maximize your lifetime income. Avoid common claiming mistakes. Explore how Social Security fits into your overall retirement plan. Don’t leave your retirement income to chance — get the clarity and confidence you deserve.

What a spectacular event! Our community came out to celebrate the Lunar New Year, turning the library into a vibrant hub of culture and joy. The festivities kicked off with a mesmerizing Lion Dance, filling the air with rhythm, energy, and excitement. Families then transitioned to the Community Room for our special Lunar New Year-inspired crafts, where creativity was in full bloom as children and adults alike tried their hand at traditional designs.



It was a true highlight of the season to see so many neighbors connecting, learning, and celebrating together. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful day of music, movement, and art!

Cinema + Sound Series: The Only Girl in the Orchestra

Join us for a special evening as we celebrate Women’s History Month with a unique fusion of live music and film.

The evening begins with a performance by the acclaimed Hausmann Quartet, joined by guest double bassist Tamara Paige. The ensemble will perform works by notable contemporary composers, including Caroline Shaw and Jessica Meyer. Following the concert, we will host a screening of the Academy Award-winning short documentary, The Only Girl in the Orchestra.

This event offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the intersection of classical performance and powerful storytelling. We hope to see you there for this celebration of female artistry and influence in music and film!
